I think they\u2019re too binding. Plus, they rarely stick and I\u2019m left with a feeling of failure. In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abccolumbia.com\/2021\/12\/31\/research-shows-80-of-people-abandon-their-new-years-resolutions-by-february\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">80% of all New Year&#8217;s resolutions<\/a>\u00a0go out the window by the second week of February.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, I like to look at the beginning of every year as a time for<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em> opportunities. <\/em><\/span>This is a good time to assess what makes me happy and what I can do to maintain and improve upon my happiness.\u00a0 I find the happier I am, the more open I am to new opportunities like developing a new friendship or applying for a promotion at work. I feel more courageous and receive greater rewards. I want to do the things that help me be my best self.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em>Happiness is not something readymade. It comes from your own actions.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em>~Dalai Lama<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some years my happiness goals relate to improving my relationships, getting healthier or keeping a more organized home. Sometimes my goals are about improving my work opportunities or saving more money. These are all great goals and some years I want to do all of them! Wishing is great but a specific action plan is the key.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><strong>What can you do to be happier this year?<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-8401 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/wp2.dinnertime.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/list-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"395\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp2.dinnertime.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/list-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/wp2.dinnertime.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/list-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/wp2.dinnertime.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/list-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/wp2.dinnertime.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/list.jpeg 1136w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 395px) 100vw, 395px\" \/><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h5>\n<h3><strong>Follow these 8 steps to reach your goal:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Own it<\/strong>.<\/span> What specific area of your life are <strong>you<\/strong> interested in improving? Write it down. Post it where you see it every day. Say it out loud.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Identify specific steps<\/strong><\/span> necessary to achieve your goal. If you want to save money, how much do you want to save per month? If you want to exercise more, how many days per week do you want to exercise? Write it down.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Scale it<\/strong>.<\/span> Choose a goal that is achievable and break it down into smaller incremental targets. You can always adjust as you make progress. In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/chiefexecutive.net\/better-results-forget-stretch-goals-lower-bar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">studies<\/a> show smaller achievable goals\u00a0produce\u00a0greater results, thus providing continuing motivation.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Plan it<\/strong>.<\/span> How are you going to achieve your plan? What tools can help you? Be specific: \u00a0plan your meals, calendar your exercise, set up auto deduction from your paycheck, etc. Do your research. Working out with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/diabetes\/library\/spotlights\/workout-buddy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">buddy<\/a> keeps you on track. Same goes for weight loss.\u00a0 You can even utilize online resources to workout with your faraway friends.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Love yourself<\/strong>.<\/span> It&#8217;s not about what other people think. All that matters is how you feel about yourself and your achievements. Many people get in their own way by allowing self-doubt. You have a goal, a plan and a team. This is yours!<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Reward yourself<\/strong>.<\/span> When you plan your goals, plan a reward for when you hit a certain achievement. For example, when you hit your monthly exercise goal, treat yourself to a new pair of workout leggings. You will feel energized and motivated to continue.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Share with others<\/strong>.<\/span> Feeling great about your recent weight loss?
