Peanut butter! November is National Peanut Butter Month and my husband couldn\u2019t be happier.<\/p>\n<p>Peanut butter is probably my husband\u2019s favorite food. He can find a way to enjoy peanut butter with anything from a breakfast of peanut butter toast to his nightly scoop of peanut butter swirl ice-cream. He\u2019ll wax poetic about the joy of opening a brand new jar of peanut butter. He used to carve his initials in the top of the creamy surface so that when his siblings opened the jar, they would see he had been there first. Yup, this is the guy I married!<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5931\" src=\"https:\/\/wp2.dinnertime.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/kid_wholewheat-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp2.dinnertime.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/kid_wholewheat-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wp2.dinnertime.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/kid_wholewheat.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As a little boy, PB&amp;Js were his first foray into the culinary world. He could make lunch all by himself! My hubby\u2019s mom knew that if he had a PB&amp;J packed in his bag before he went off to play with the neighborhood kids, he would be just fine until dinner. In fact, she considered it a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicalnewstoday.com\/articles\/323781.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">healthy choice<\/a>, and she wasn\u2019t wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Some folks shy away from peanut butter because they think it isn\u2019t healthy, but peanut butter can actually reduce the risk of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalpeanutboard.org\/more\/heart-health\/heart-health.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">heart disease<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicalnewstoday.com\/articles\/317127.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">type 2 diabetes<\/a>. It can even help with weight control.<\/p>\n<p>I<a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/healthy-eating\/ask-the-doctor-why-is-peanut-butter-healthy-if-it-has-saturated-fat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">t\u2019s all about moderation<\/a>. Two tablespoons of peanut butter provides a good amount of protein (7 grams), along with essential\u00a0vitamins\u00a0and minerals. The ratio of unsaturated and saturated fats is similar to olive oil (a heart-healthy choice) plus the nutrients of niacin, potassium, magnesium and Vitamin E found in peanut butter can aid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20180214006087\/en\/Peanuts-Certified-%E2%80%9CHeart-Healthy%E2%80%9D-Food-American-Heart-Association%E2%80%99s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">heart health<\/a>. The protein, natural fats and fiber help you feel full. Added sugar and salt, or other ingredients such as <a href=\"https:\/\/orangutan.org\/palmoil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">palm oil<\/a> are unnecessary and can negatively affect heart health and weight. Even the big brands are now making &#8220;natural&#8221; options. Read the label! If your natural peanut butter has separated, give it a quick stir. We store ours upside down to keep the oils incorporated.<\/p>\n<p>Our youngest daughter is a peanut butter fan too! Recently, I overheard her debate the merits between homemade and store-bought natural peanut butters to the big brands made with added ingredients. All but one of her friends preferred natural peanut butter. However, all of them were interested to hear that she makes her own peanut butter. Check out this recipe for just how easy it is to make.
