It’s all in the vocabulary. Change? Or improvement? For some people, the word “change” worries them. What is changing? I just got used to the way it is. Will I like the change? Of course, as they say, “The only constant in life is change.”
Change can indeed be hard. By nature, we become comfortable with what we know. Changing schools, changing jobs, changing homes are all big changes that can cause high levels of stress. Even small changes can seem stressful, and can be hard to manage. Whether deliberately or unconsciously, what we do each day to get through the day as smoothly as possible builds habits. We rely on these habits so much that changing them can be a real challenge. We naturally resist change even when we know it will help. Studies show it can take months to fully change a habit.
The thing is, change is important to growth. I’m referring to personal and professional growth. So I don’t want to see change as hard or bad. Instead, I try to replace the word “change” with the positive word “improvement.” To me, improvement is a success. I’m training myself to look for ways to improve. Life is pretty good, but my home can be improved, my relationships can be improved, and my daily habits can be improved. This is my “glass-half-full” perspective. Bring it on, ‘cause I want to improve!
DinnerTime is no different. We like the way things are working, but always look for ways to improve and delight our members. We have lively brainstorming sessions where we wonder, “Wouldn’t it be cool if DinnerTime could do ‘this’ or ‘that’?” It’s fun to think up these improvements, and then we get to work! We do a lot of testing and reworking with our amazing team. Even as we make improvements to the site, these changes generate more ideas. Everything we do is designed to make our members’ lives happier, healthier…easier!
(We really value hearing your suggestions. Email us at feedback@dinnertime.com.)
I get a big rush out of knowing how hard we have worked to make improvements, just like when I finish a project around my home. Success! Sometimes, the little improvements can make the biggest difference to my everyday happiness.
Embrace “improvements” in your life. It might take some convincing and adjustment to your everyday habits, but the outcome is greater than where you started. Fill your glass with improvement!
