March is National Nutrition Month

Discover the Power of Nutrition!

March is finally here, and with it comes a fresh opportunity to prioritize your well-being. Every year, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics sponsors National Nutrition Month®—a month-long campaign dedicated to helping us make informed food choices and develop sound eating and physical activity habits.

This year’s theme, “Discover the Power of Nutrition”, focuses on how food and nutrients fuel every aspect of our lives, from brain power for learning to the physical energy needed to thrive in our communities.

4 Simple Ways to Power Your Day

Improving your nutrition doesn’t require a total overhaul. Small, consistent changes are often the most sustainable. Here are four practical ways to celebrate this month:

  • Eat the Rainbow: Fill half your plate with a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables. These provide the essential fiber, vitamins, and minerals your body needs to function at its peak.
  • Plan Ahead: Dedicate one day a week to meal planning and prepping. Having healthy snacks like nuts, fruit, or yogurt ready to go reduces the temptation to reach for processed convenience foods when you’re in a rush.
  • Stay Hydrated: Choose water as your primary beverage. Many times, our bodies mistake thirst for hunger; staying hydrated aids digestion and keeps your energy levels steady.
  • Practice Mindful Eating: Slow down and listen to your body’s hunger cues. Turning off screens during meals helps you enjoy your food more and prevents overeating.

How to Get Involved Locally

  • At Work: Host a healthy “lunch and learn” to swap recipes with coworkers.
  • At Home: As a family, commit to trying one new fruit or vegetable each week during National Nutrition Month®.
  • In the Community: Organize a food donation campaign for a local food pantry or shelter.

This March, remember, small steps make a big difference. Every bite is an opportunity to fuel your future!
